The NSW Fish Passage Database is an initiative of NSW DPI Fisheries and is focussed on the site information recorded from 1999 to present day and is an ongoing initiatives new/updated information becomes available. Fish barriers include any natural or man-made in stream structure that act as a barrier to fish movement or seasonal migration. Barriers and are recorded into five structure types including; Natural, Weir/Dam/Regulator, Road Crossing, Floodgate and Gauging Station.

The Database has a number of primary functions including but not limited to;

 • The capture of data for fish passage barriers and remediation

 • Prioritisation at the local government area, catchment, and State level for allocation of effort and funding for the removal/rehabilitation of priority barriers to fish passage

 • Facilitation of data queries, mining and reporting

 • Providing an inventory of anthropogenic instream structures through NSW

 • Providing the spatial location of natural instream features (waterfalls, rock bars etc.) throughout NSW
